When Julie Krieger’s startup business landed three new clients within the first year, she was understandably overwhelmed.

“Overwhelmed and overworked. I was spinning on the spot because I had more work to do than I knew how to do, so I just did nothing. I had six days of client contract time per week … I really needed help.”

Julie is a CEO for hire, working specifically with industry bodies. She works a set number of hours a week for each client, working through implementation of strategy, sales and sponsorship, membership management, budgeting, planning and more.

Finding the right solution

Tom Huckerby had a solution … as recruitment experts, StaffLogic provide an expert solution to sourcing and managing skilled offshore talent.

Tom and his hugely experienced teams in Australia and the Philippines offer a complete end to end recruitment service … but it’s not your everyday Manila call-centre type workers. They recruit highly skilled, university educated workers looking for opportunity.

But first they needed to work out what would make the biggest difference to Julie’s business.

“It was a very personal process. Tom spent quite a lot of time with me understanding what it was I needed – because at that point, I didn’t know.

I thought I wanted them to work in Xero, Mail Chimp and manage the social media. I didn’t have clarity on what would make the difference. In the end we decided to go for an Executive Assistant role.”

A brave new world

“I was initially nervous … not because my employee was from the Philippines, but because they weren’t in the office with me. It wouldn’t have mattered if they were in the next suburb …

I was apprehensive about whether we’d face difficulties because we weren’t physically present.

There’s always nervousness about whether someone is ‘going to get it’.

I had to let go of the more administrative basics that were taking up a lot of my time.

Onboarding my virtual executive assistant meant I could share the workload and get my job done within a normal week. It’s been a very good move.”

Proactive... and delightful

“My Executive Assistant is incredibly proactive. We’ve got to a point very quickly, where she understands my business on a deep level. She understands my clients and the key contacts. She knows what’s urgent and what the priorities are. She’s ticked every single box and more. And on top of it all, she’s just delightful.”

What it means for Julie

“Having outsourced an efficient Executive Assistant  has meant I’ve been able to take on more capacity, because I’m able to get the work done. I’m growing my business. It’s given me the ability to increase my income by 30 – 40%, which is quite significant. I’m hoping I’ll work with her for years to come.”

Mutually beneficial

Because the use of offshore workers is a cost effective option, it allows Julie to take more time to train, and it eases the pressure of learning new systems. And Julie can afford to treat her well. Although she works in the Philippines, Julie makes sure she’s given the same paid public holidays as she would receive here in Australia and paid holidays at Christmas time.

“Because it’s not a huge cost, I can afford to do those things. The fact that I can make the terms and conditions of her employment better and more attractive, I know I have her loyalty and her commitment.

And the thought of her leaving is quite terrifying. The knowledge she’s gained in the past six months is incredible.”

A real ‘no risk’ solution

There are no contracts when you employ off-shore workers, so that mitigates most of the risk involved.

And if it doesn’t work out, you can be proactive quickly and efficiently and find another solution.

“I did have some IT issues initially – issues with systems and system capacity (slow internet speed) but we were able to resolve it pretty easily and move onto smooth sailing.

When my EA came on board she was living outside the Philippines while her husband was on a short-term work placement.

She would log on at 2pm and finish at 10pm in order to fit with me.

She moved back to the Philippines recently so the timezones work a little better.”

Experts in customer service

Julie Krieger is exceptionally happy with the level of service she’s received from Tom and the StaffLogic team.

“Tom Huckerby knows what he’s doing, and he’s an expert in customer service.

My hope is that my business will grow, and I can have a team of people in the Philippines – and maybe someone like Lea will be heading that team. I’ll be a lucky person if that happens.

Recruiting offshore has made a massive difference to my business. I’m a very happy customer.”
